Self-Tests

I need to do a self-test in a hurry, how do I book?

If you need to book a self-test in a hurry and can't book online, call us directly and we will be only too glad to help if we can. Be aware that we usually need to finish filming your self-test at least 2 hours before your submission is due, so we can edit it and deliver it to you or to submit on your behalf before the deadline. If it less than 2 hours before your self-test is due for submission, we will do the best we can, but we can't guarantee to get it done in time. Discuss this with us when you call.

I'm not sure how long I will need, how do I choose the right session?

Which session package you should choose will vary considerably between different actors, based on the way the actor likes  to work when filming self-tests, and the length of the script(s) they are filming. Some actors will be happy in two or three takes; some will want to keep doing another take trying to do a better one; some scripts are half a page and others are two or three. These are the main factors you will need to think about when choosing.

Our way of helping actors around this issue is we recommend over-estimating the time you think you might need rather than under-estimating it and then we only charge for the time you use to film. So, if you book a 2-hour session and finish in 1 hour, we only charge for the hour you use. Hopefully, this will give you  some guidelines and reassurance when choosing the right session for you. If you are still unsure, we are always happy to discuss this with you and even customise a session to suit your needs.

Is there anything I need to do before my self-test?

To get the most out of your session, learn any scripts/sides that you have and be warmed-up ready to film when you get here.  If you wish us to read for you, it can be helpful to send a copy of your scripts/sides in advance to scripts@barkingatthemoon.com.au, so we can prepare beforehand.

Do I need to bring anything to my self-test?

If you haven't sent us a copy of the scripts/sides and you require us to read for you, remember to bring a hard copy of your scripts/sides on the day. Also, if there are one or two small props you'd like to use, then feel free to bring them with you.  We have chairs and tables that you can use if required.

Can I bring my own reader?

By all means. We are only to happy what works best for you.

Why do I need to make sure my self-test filming finishes at least 2 hours before my self-test is due for submission?

We usually need to finish filming your self-test at least 2 hours before your submission is due, so we can edit it and either deliver it to you or submit on your behalf before the deadline. If it’s less than 2 hours before your self-test is due for submission, we will do the best we can to get it submitted, but we can't guarantee to get it done in time.

How long will it take to get my self-test video?

Generally, we will have your edited self-test video within 2 to 3 hours of your session, which is why we ask that you to leave 2 hours between the end of your filming session and the submission deadline. We block out some time after each filming session to do the editing, and we aim to have your self-test ready by the end of that editing time. So, you might get it a lot sooner than 2 hours, depending on a number of factors based from your filming session.
